I miss when the Busch cars were basically copies of the Cup cars but with 5 inch shorter wheelbases

I've never seen this before until today. Apparently Oreos wanted Earnhardt in 2001 to run a Grinch Oreos themed car for the Bud Shootout, but the promotion for the limited edition Oreos was almost over so it was scrapped.

Supposed prototype/concept

level 2

oh now this is something I never heard of. I wish it was a little more Grinchy instead of all White but still so cool.

level 3

Agreed bröther, a green machine would have been badass

Dave Blaney, Bill Davis Racing, Texas Spring 2004

Rewatched the 2004 Samsung Radioshack 500 because I'm a Sadler fan, and I saw this beauty. Thought it was cool to see a real short track sponsoring a cup car. Wish I could find a pic of the right side of the car, it said "Topless 100". It was a race that Batesville was having I think for convertibles. Mike Joy talked about it for a few minutes during the race.

Dirt late models will occasionally run "topless" races where they take the roofs off the cars.

Ah ok, makes more sense. I saw this at like 2 am the other night and couldn't remember the details of it. I don't know much about dirt racing.

I don't either, but I happened to watch a "topless" race at Charlotte one time. I think it was the same weekend as the 600.

Looks very similar to Harvicks 2001 scheme.

In honor of the ARCA race at Daytona, Ricky Hendrick, 2001 Discount Auto Parts 2000

Wonder what the significance of the #71 was. Seems a rather random number.

Stewart-Haas Racing

Someone probably had the #17 already, which was his trucks number, so he probably just took the reverse.

That makes sense...I forgot about the #17 trucks.

level 5

Nope. Nobody had 17 for that race. The 24 was in use however. I have no idea why he used 71

#09 Geoffrey Bodine - Smirnoff Ice Ford...Before Smirnoff Ice was with Jack Roush, it was in a second Brett Bodine Racing car in the 2001 Sharpie 500.

level 2

Knowing the history between those two brothers. I find Geoff in a second Brett Bodine car amazing

level 2

Was that Brain Keselowski's car/team? I know he ran the 92 in 2011. Same font and everything.

level 3

Yes.

2 for 1 special, I always forget there was more than one driver for Yates' Busch car, and that Todd Kluever was part of Roush's development program.

Sidenote hope the link works, still trying to figure this out

Stephen Leicht in Sadler's RYR car

Leicht ran the full 2007 season in that car & won at Kentucky. I had actually forgotten that Sadler drove the car, even though it makes sense. I remember Leicht & Matt McCall driving it.
