Sounds more like they approved the idea that they need to do something. Now they need to find out how to pay for it, then I guess they'll need to plan what to do, and then maybe sometime before 2040 they might actually start to do something about it.

They'll put up tolls owned by some out of state private company or some other bullshit like that.

And then the project will get shelved for another twenty years. The proposals in the nineties were for tolls and privatization, and the whole thing died because of it. When will our elected officials realize that privatizing our infrastructure is never the answer?

It's about damn time. I live in Harrisonburg, and if there is not an accident on 81 everyday, there is one every other day. It has been absolutely ridiculous lately.

Rockingham/Augusta Counties 10 years ago: "You know what would be great? If we billed ourselves as a center point for distribution centers for major companies like Wal-Mart, Marshall's, etc. Think of the jobs and tax revenue!"

10 years later: "Why is there so much traffic on the I-81 corridor and a six mile backup due to accident every other day? It just doesn't make any sense."

Can you imagine if 81 was three lanes? Oof.

not from the projected cost. 10-15 mil PER MILE!. It would definitely have to start somewhere in the middle because mile marker 1 is in Bristol, and it goes to 320-someodd up past Winchester. If it were every mile it would be somewhere between 3.2 and 4.8 billion dollars. Not to mention how long that shit would take to finish.

Blacksburg to the PA line needs to be 6 lines, just figured we'd have flying cars before that ever happened.

The I-81 corridor is one of the Commonwealth’s vital gateways to economic prosperity

It mostly takes traffic from outside the state to another state. While I do not doubt that the Commonwealth profits from this, I'm not sure I would classify that aspect of it as vital.
