Need mobo, cpu and graphics card for video editing computer

Hi r/buildapc, I've been looking into building a media editing computer for a while now. I have a ssd and a case, I'm just hung up on the mobo/cpu/graphics card end of things.

Right now, I'm looking at Intel i7/i5 but am wondering if the extra power the i7 provides is worth the extra cash. I don't know much about AMD, however if it works, I'm game. I'm not planning on overclocking.

I don't plan on playing any video games ever (I'm not an avid gamer), so I'm not sure how intense the graphics card needs to be. I have an older card in my current computer (nvidea radeon I think?) that I can probably transplant.

I have no idea about the mobo. Preferably something with USB 3.0/firewire. Maybe thunderbolt? It's not very widely utilized yet, so I'm not too worried about it.

I plan on editing primarily hd footage from dslr/camcorders, with either avid or adobe software.

Ideally, I want to keep these hardware costs around $300-400. I'm hunting for deals on newegg/amazon/ebay.

nvidea radeon I think?

Those are the two main companies making GPU's. It either one, not both.

I would suggest doing some research into workstation GPU's. These are specifically design for what you're doing. There will be no gaming optimization with these GPU, which is great for you since you don't plan on gaming. I am not keen on workstation GPU's. But I know these will work much better than the gaming GPU's.

I would suggest and i5-3570 or AMD FX-8320 for your CPU.
