Looking at the cast, seeing a guy named wardog, and even after just his bio, I immediately wrote him off. However, watching his interviews and hearing him speak and seeing that spark of intelligence, this man was THIS close to becoming my winner pick. If he wouldn’t be typecast as “Tony” by his castaways most likely, I 100% would have made him my winner pick. I just think they cast too many Tony clones too fast. I predict a deep run but sadly being too threatening to reach the end naturally.

level 2

I think he appears very intelligent, but his strategy to hide that intelligence behind his sheer strength may actually be dangerous. He's got to make sure he can keep that intelligent side turned completely off, because if he even shows it for a second he's going to likely be voted out. I picked Joe. I figured people like Aurora and Eric will become targets VERY quickly for their tribe, and Ron will quickly become annoying (I fully expect Ron to be the first one off of Kama). Hopefully from there someone like Wardog will still be around and a target.

Wardog seems to be trying a bit too hard to be playing a character in his videos, but then there's the interview with Arisa where he sounds a lot more "normal" person and I like his answers. So I'm not too sure about him, he's most likely going to be a big presence, but I'm not sure if he's going to be a Cagayan Tony or a GC Tony.

Gavin is Nick reincarnated, he even mentions the JT&Stephen duo. How much of DvG did these players see? Because he's chances to go far are directly proportional with how little they saw of Nick's game, in my opinion.

level 2

I don’t think they saw any of it. A few of them mentioned the Ghost Island finale so it was probably fresh in their minds. I think even numbered seasons are filmed in the summer months and DvG aired in September.

So he should be fine, then. He's got the strategy&innocent charm mix that works so well in this game.

level 1

Am I the only one that strongly dislikes Gavin? Am I the only one that thinks he’ll be out premerge? This kid just rubs me the wrong way.

level 2

I see what your saying, but I don’t think he’ll be out pre-merge. He strikes me as someone who will get along well with the girls and he isn’t strong enough to be voted out as a challenge threat. Plus he has that southern charm. I don’t think he will win tho.

level 2

One thing that is off for me is his tattoo. It doesn’t look bad by any means. It just looks off.

level 2

Really? He's my favorite this season by far. Seems like the sweetest guy

level 2

He rubs me wrong too.

Yeah I don't think he's as likable as he thinks he is

level 2

Yep. He makes me uncomfortable. He's such a BIG character. I can't help but think that if a woman played such a over the top character in pre season alone, they'd be deemed the most annoying player ever, outright.

I've seen a decent amount of comparisons between Gavin this season & Nick from the last season. I some ways I agree with the assessments & in other ways I don't. If there's one thing I definitely don't doubt its that Gavin likely won't really have as many problems reaching the merge, he's fit, likable likely has a decent mind for the game. However, to me, he screams early merge boot in a way Nick never did. I think when others start to realize that he's brighter than first impressions lead on people will be intimidated by him. Especially if he teams up with one of his favorite players Joe early on too. Just think at his threat level will become apparent a bit faster than what Gavin expects himself.

Wardog is such a dark horse for me. I really think he could do well based on what I've heard from him, but I have the worry for him that I'm unsure whether he's too confident in himself. There's nothing wrong with being confident in your own abilities mind you, but I think Wardog is teetering the line between confidence & arrogance. It's one thing to say "I'll just do this early on & be fine" (which was the vibe I got off him in the Arisa video) & actually putting it into action. If I had to guess I think Wardog probably does well early on, but at some point, he'll lose his footing due overestimating his position & is gonna struggle the rest of the game until his elimination.

I feel bad that I get Ben Browning vibes from Gavin. That's almost entirely based off of appearance though I do think he's going to share a placement with him. He's one that hasn't inspired any real interest in me because at least in pregame press he's only really answering in what production wants to hear rather than giving what they want in his own way. He's another in a long line of people who seem to have Survivor fandom in place of his selling point as a castaway and that makes me sad. We should be getting sold on who you are and what makes you special not hearing homogenised answers you've clearly practiced to get through casting. It's honestly a cop out in my opinion.

As for Wardog, he's a great casting choice. A lot of Survivor is about perception vs reality and the players that stick in our minds, Werner from SA6 is the best example in my opinion, tend to embody that. Dan is another such player. I'm unsure he's going to be able to elude his perception which makes it hard to be really keen on him going deep but I think I'll enjoy seeing him do it if he does. He knows his history of Survivor but unlike a lot of people in this cast he's a character first and Survivor fan second and I really appreciate that. I sincerely doubt he's our winner but I reckon I and a lot of people are going to enjoy him on this season.

I think Gavin will go far,can see him being aligned with Joe. Wardog seems like he will be a big character, I can see him getting to the merge then being targeted for being a strategic threat.

Is the Stephen/JT hybrid archetype a thing already? Because Gavin looks to be one of them like Nick last season (Saw his twitter video)

Wardog, at the very least, will be entertaining. He’s also my winner pick.

I think Wardog was meant to serve as the "crazy, Northeastern" archetype that we've seen with people like Tony, Joe and Dom.

I think he will be entertaining to watch.

I really want to like Wardog because I usually like players who go by wacky nicknames, but I really hope he doesn't try too hard to force the Wardog character on the island and veer into Phillip territory, especially if he talks like he tweets: in 3rd person. If he's like he was in his ET video and plays it cool, he'll be a fun guy.

level 1

Gavin is very sweet and charismatic, but his age may hold him back tbh. Winners more often than not tend to be outside the early 20s. And I can see Gavin being a victim of a blindside during the mid-late merge.

He's more Jon Misch than Nick Wilson, imho.

Gavin is this season's "says all the right things" player, we'll see if he can back it up. This kid got married super young, people who do that are usually (though certainly not always) mature for their age. I imagine it'll be a tough emotional burden to be immediately separated from your new wife for a month. Anyway, his strategy is to play up his Southern shtick whilst masking how strategic he is. Remind you of anyone who won recently?

Wardog (do I have to call him that?) was actually the person who most won me over in his Arisa video. I was expecting someone intimidating and too intense, but as the conversation went on, he actually seems very easy to talk to and had a lot of good insight into the game. I'm trying to reconcile that person with the troll/provocateur he seems to be on Twitter. I do like his chances though, if for no other reason than because if anyone's equipped for Extinction, it's him.
