There is way too much cursing. Also, way too much sex. Why? It in no way enhances the story. Deadwood used cursing and it was spot on. This just detracts.

oh boohoo someone said the F word

Is Doom Patrol worth watching if I hated Titans? And I really REALLY hated Titans.

I didn't care for Titans, but I love Doom Patrol. It's definitely a bit on the weird side, but unlike Titans I actually care about the characters and there isn't a shitty blue filter over everything.

level 3

Good to know. So I take it the characters aren't irredeemable sociopaths under these writers? Maybe I'll check it out then.

level 2

I've never even heard of Titans. I'm not a DC fan generally.

I loved the first episode.

You aren't missing out on anything. In fact I envy you. It's supposed to be based on the Teen Titans if that helps.

It’s real different from Titans and most comic book shows tbh. In a good way

I went into it not giving a fuck if I hated it or not. It was fairly entertaining, but nothing groundbreaking. It'll likely develop into a fairly formulaic type superhero show except they say fuck. It you thought deadpool was great when it comes to superhero movies you'll probably like this. I've never seen Titans.

Crazy Jane is so my type. Pretty sure I dated her a few years back.

level 1

I went in with low expectations and was shocked at how well this came together. Pretty excited for the next episode.

level 1

what's the budget of this compared to Titans and compared to the Netflix Marvel series and the CW DC series?

level 2

Netflix Marvel series and the CW DC series?

It’s budget is far higher than both of these I’ll tell you that much.

It’s budget is also higher than Titans but not as much as it is to those other 2. DP looked like a legit AAA blockbuster movie for like its first 40 or so minutes then the quality of the CG dropped when they reached the town

...Did we watch the same show? I felt like it was pretty comparable to something like the Flash or Legends of Tomorrow where the quantity of effects shots is impressive but the quality is...bad (which has it's own charm I'll grant you). None of the sets or costumes screamed high production values either. I'm really curious what aspects of it felt like a blockbuster to you because those fire effects. Oof.

I really enjoyed Titans, but I feel like this could be even more enjoyable already from the first episode. The characters and the back stories are just refreshing and more interesting.

level 2

Agreed, I even thought that when watching the Doom Patrol episode in Titans, which was my favorite of the series outside of the Jason Todd one. I'm already invested in every character in the show.

Have you even watched the episode before commenting this?

Nope, that's why I asked, "Why does the time period look all jacked up in the previews?"

My concern was that it was one of those shows that tries to be stylish and vague, and mixes up the era's in order for it to have a 'unique' time period feel.

But judging from my downvotes, this isn't true?

level 4

Fair enough. I find it a bit odd you're commenting in the series premiere discussion without having watched it yet lol.

Anyway the pilot goes through different era's as they're setting up character backstories. Moving forward the show is set in 2019.

Wanted to see what people thought of it, since I am unfamiliar with the characters or the show.

Moving forward the show is set in 2019.

Ahh, good to know, and I was hoping that would be the case. I was a little confused. Robotman looks sorta pulpy 50's style build, the blob/melty chick said in the "pictures" when someone asked her if she was in the movies--a very old fashioned way of saying things. Lots of older cars. Then I see cyborg and computers, so I was like wth?!

I will def give it a watch tho because the last trailer looked great and lots of good feedback for it in this thread.

Great start !

I really like the different characters and back stories so far. I have no idea how they can get out of the situation we saw and the end of the episode though :p

level 1

Holy shit, a superhero show that feels new and fresh. God, it's been forever.

level 1

watched it, absolutely love it so far.

Show was better than I expected. Really liked it and can’t wait for more.

level 1

Doom Patrol is freaking amazing. Fraser knocks it out of the park as do Dalton, Tudyk, and the rest. Epic and weird.

level 1

I'm having an oddly hard time finding where this show airs, anyone got the answer?
